I was asked to Illustrate another book with Lab4living at Sheffield Hallam University on the topic of dementia. ‘Near Nature’ is compiled and constructed by writer John Killick, from nearly three decades of working with individuals considered to have dementia, mainly in care homes.

The poems were constructed by John from the words of individuals which arose in the course of conversations in care homes.

He writes, ‘I believe they [the poems] demonstrate that people with dementia are experiencing profound changes which we are all very far from understanding. However, these individuals have essential insights to share with us, not only about what it is like living with the condition but also, in a much broader way, about what it means to be human.’
